Is monogamy a natural state of being?

Over the past few days I have noticed two very imperious, large birds sitting in the same tree each time I have been out on my walk but had no idea what they were. Google rescued me. Buzzards and they are generally, but not exclusively, monogamous by all accounts.

Which got me thinking about other creatures and how many might be monogamous.

According to National Geographic this is it:

Black-Necked Swan

Black Vulture

Macaw

Pot-Bellied Seahorse

Gentoo Penguin

Beaver

Sandhill Crane

French Angelfish

Albatross

Barn Owl

Turtle Dove

Bald Eagle

Dik Dik

Prairie Vole

Shingleback Skink

Gray Wolf

Macaroni Penguin

Lar Gibbon

Schistosoma Mansoni Worm

Given there are 8.7 million species on Earth, 19 doesn't sound like many - begs the question.....?
