This weekend will be the boys last game for Dursley Rugby as youths when they play against a touring team, Abbey Park HS, from Ontario in Canada. It will also be my last effort as coach.
While my overriding emotion is one of great pleasure, pride and achievement, I can't help but feel a little sad
It has been an absolute joy, and privilege, to watch them grow into young adults over the past 11 years and to provide some input into their growth as individuals and as a collective..
Rugby has given them a sense of purpose, independent thought, discipline and respect. But surely the most important thing they have gained is an understanding of the value of teamwork and camaraderie - aspects which few, if any, other games can offer let alone match.
The big question for me is how I fill the time and replace the passion and enjoyment the game has afforded me this past 11 years now the cubs have become lions.
