'If your mind is empty, it is always ready for anything. It is open to everything. In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities; in the expert's mind there are few.' - Shunryu Suzuki
I got back from Seoul late last night having spent a wonderful 5 days there.
I was feeling a little tired when I headed off for my walk but looking forward to tramping the fields having done all my walking in the lovely, but clinical, 5-star surrounds of Pulse 8 gym at the Conrad Hotel..
I strode into my oak's field and strangely I was thinking of nothing, seeing nothing but the place for my next steps and it was then I recalled a conversation with my brother Roger whilst we were in Seoul together about the ability to clear one's mind and how restorative it must be to be able to do this at will.
I 'oogled it when I got back determined to understand how one goes about achieving that state of being.
There seem to be many ways to achieving it but I have settled on meditation as my preferred option.
The mind is a tool you can control - rather than letting a cycle develop around our thoughts we need to control that cycle to our best effect. - to empty the mind and fill it with nothing.
So with this in mind (pardon the pun!) I searched and read and this seemed to be the most easily understood, way to achieve it - these are the steps to take in order to achieve the clear and uncluttered mind
An empty mind is:
Aware—embracing the present moment and experience
Peaceful—it doesn’t dwell on the same thoughts
Intuitive—it’s receptive of input from higher sources
Free—from judgment and worry
Creative—allowing inspiration and new ideas to come in
Relaxed—it releases stress and fosters wellbeing
Energised—no effort is wasted on unwanted thoughts
