Tooth-Hurty

Patient: Doctor, I have yellow teeth, what do I do?

Dentist: Wear a brown tie...

You don't have to brush all your teeth, just the ones you want to keep. What does the dentist of the year get?

A little plaque

I visited the dentist for the first time in 14 years today and was given a clean bill of health much to my relief. While I was resting up in his recliner I got to thinking about the furore surrounding the comment made yesterday by No 10 policy unit head George Freeman - disability benefits should go to "really disabled people" not those "taking pills at home, who suffer from anxiety"

Disability comes in many forms, each debilitating in its own way.

The notion that one disability is more deserving of assistance than another is to misunderstand the nature of disabilities and the impact on those afflicted

Some, like our Ben who has Jacobsen's syndrome, which manifests in a global developmental delay, are completely unaware of their disability. Someone suffering from anxiety would be acutely aware of the impact their state of mind has on their ability to lead a 'carefree and normal' existence..

I fully understand the need to control the cost of running the country but, as I pointed out in an earlier post, society is only as strong as the weakest link and targeting the budget for those with disabilities is the last place a caring, and strong, society should start.

I am delighted that Mr Freeman recanted today and hope that this recantation ensures the continued financial assistance that helps ensure those with disabilities are able to lead as fulfilled a life as is possible.
