Growing old disgracefully!

I met a wonderful late middle age (mid-70's) couple in my Oak field today. They walked toward me hand in hand as I entered Oak field seemingly complete happy with each other and content, at least for that moment

It made me think of how we overthink age and the progression of years. There is after all a certainty about life and, without sounding moribund, that certainty is our own mortality.

I thought I would find some self deprecating ageist joke and quotes to add balance, perspective and levity to a conversation piece that usually inspires gloom in celebration of the at ease couple I crossed paths with today.

These from a site www.growingolddisgracefully.org.uk which tickled my funny bone (the quotes and the site name)

Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, but beautiful old people are works of art.— Eleanor Roosevelt

Inside every older person is a younger person wondering what happened. — Jennifer Yane

Don’t be afraid your life will end; be afraid that it will never begin. — Grace Hansen

If you obey all the rules, you miss all the fun. — Katharine Hepburn

You don't stop laughing when you grow old, you grow old when you stop laughing. ― George Bernard Shaw

and my favourite.........

It`s not how old you are, it`s how you are old. ― Jules Renard

So celebrate the passing years, enjoy each moment for what it offers in its difference and above all else laugh my friends, laugh!
