Leaver or remainer,, the delivery of Theresa May's Article 50 letter to Donald Tusk by Sir Tom Barrow in less than 24 hours will represent one of the most, if not the the most, momentous symbolic acts in recent political history.

For the leavers it will serve as the beginning of what they consider to be a bright new future outside the EU, for remainers entry into a period of uncertainty at best, economic gloom at worst.

Having voted remain I passionately believe that it is incumbent on us to use all our intellect, guile and will to deliver the best resulting exit agreement for our children. An arrangement that ensures we remain as close to our nearest neighbours in both social and economic terms as we are able to at the same time honouring the will of the people..

Of one thing we can be sure - if we approach our exit in a positive, pragmatic and conciliatory manner the chances of success, as in life, will be greatly enhanced. Negotiation from a dour, selfish and emotional standpoint will certainly result in an agreement unhelpful to either ourselves or our neighbours.

Strap yourselves in the next 2 years are going to be, if nothing else, one hell of a ride.
