Debbie does..........

.....North East Queensland. While Debbie does Dallas was soft core this Debbie's doings are hard core.

On the day President Chump signed the executive order to commence the process of withdrawing and rewriting the Obama-era Clean Power Plan, Cyclone Debbie began her assault on the Australian mainland.

With wind gusts measured at an unbelievable 263 kph this is one of the most powerful storms to ever hit Australia and the damage is expected to run into the billions according to insurers.

With climate change now considered an undeniable fact it beggars belief that the President of the nation with the largest emissions could possibly abrogate his responsibility for the very future of our planet by embracing such short-termist policies.

Coal is dead. The reason coal mines in the US closed was because it was no longer economically viable to mine the deposits. With rapidly decreasing costs associated with wind and solar, energy, coal can no longer compete with the cleaner alternatives - and this takes no account of the gas produced by fracking.

If Chump decides to extricate the US from COP21 the US will join 3 other countries in not signing up to the accord - Nicaragua, Syria and Uzbekistan (all titans on the world stage!)

So on a day where we are so vividly reminded of the potential for climate wrought damage, both physical and economic, we must thank our lucky stars that the majority of the world understands the need for change and are being ably assisted by the developers and funders of clean energy initiatives in an attempt to stave off the potential for catastrophe that exists in denial.

In the face of such palpable ignorance a little bit of Aussie humour to take the edge off - enjoy!
